

GRADUATE RESEARCH EDUCATION
PROGRAMME
The launch of a national Graduate Research
Education Programme by IRCSET and IRCHSS heralds an innovative
new approach to postgraduate and doctoral formation in all
disciplines in Ireland.
Under the 2007 Graduate Research Education Programme,
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are invited to apply for
multi-annual funding on a collaborative basis.
This is a competitive process which will award
funding to the proposals deemed to have the most merit following
review by an independent assessment panel.

The programme is designed to developstructured
research student education on a collaborative basis. An application
for funding under this scheme should comprise a number of elements:
proposals for course development and course delivery to research
students in the programme; measures designed to assist in the
administration of the programme, in the development of graduate
education networks and in the recruitment of well-qualified
students. The duration of a programme for which funding is
sought may be up to five years.

CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS:
Wednesday, 4th July, 2007.
This call is open to all eligible applicants
as set out in the terms and conditions for the scheme. Eligibility
is not dependent on success in the 2006 Exploratory Grants
Scheme.
It is anticipated that a further call
for applications will be made by the Irish Research Council
for Science, Engineering and Technology in October 2007.
The next call for applications from the Irish Research Council
for Humanities and Social Sciences will be made in 2008.
Graduate Research Education Programmes

focussed on high quality research.
- will provide a more formalised and structured
approach to research education and career formation for doctoral
and masters scholars.
- will equip Ireland’s Higher Education
Institutions and researchers to participate in the ts outlined
in the national Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation.
