The ESF is the European association of national organisations responsible for the support of scientific research. The ESF brings European scientists together to work on topics of common interest, to facilitate cooperation in the use of large research facilities, and to discover and define new endeavours which will benefit from a cooperative approach. The Foundation also works with its member organisations in the joint study of science policy issues of strategic importance in Europe. The IRCHSS joined the ESF in 2001. Through its membership of the ESF, the Research Council is committed to maximising opportunities for researchers in Ireland to benefit from participation in European networks of research excellence. The Research Council currently participates in the following ESF scientific programmes:

EUROCORES 2009

The EUROCORES Programme for European Collaborative Research Projects (ECRP) is a response to the continuing demand from the scientific community response to the continuing demand from the scientific community in the countries of the SCSS’s Member Organisations for funding to support responsive-mode, investigator-driven Collaborative Research Projects within all fields of social science in Europe. The ECRP Programme is designed to promote research of the highest quality, offering opportunities to test innovative ideas, pool expertise and strengthen research capacity in line with the objectives of the European Research Area. The IRCHSS, by being signatory to the call, facilitates applications from researchers based in Irish research institutions. More Info.
