IRCHSS SUBJECT AREAS

The subject areas eligible for funding under IRCHSS schemes include, but are not limited to, the following:

Anthropology;
Archaeology;
Celtic Studies;
Childhood Studies;
Classics;
Criminology;
Cultural Studies;
Economics;
Education;
Equality Studies;
Environmental Studies (applications relevant to the humanities and social sciences);
Film Studies;
Folklore Studies;
Gender Studies;
Government,
Political Science,
Political Theory;
Health Promotion (applications relevant to the humanities and social sciences);
History;
International Development;
Irish Language Studies;
Languages,
Linguistics and Literatures;
Law;
Library and Information Studies;
Management and Business;
Media and Communications;
Musicology and Theatre Studies (excluding applications in composition and performance);
Philosophy;
Psychology (applications relevant to the humanities and social sciences);
Religious Studies;
Social and Economic Geography;
Social Policy Social Work;
Sociology;
Theology.

For the Purposes of the Bilateral agreement between the IRCHSS and the AHRC the ‘humanities’ are defined in relation to research and practice-based research, in the subjects: Archaeology, Art History, Celtic Studies, Classics, Cultural Studies, English Language and Literature, Film Studies, Gender Studies, History, Languages, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Media Studies, Musicology, Philosophy, Theatre Studies, and Theology.

For the purposes of the Bilateral agreement between the IRCHSS and the ESRC the ‘social sciences’ are defined as inclusive of the subjects Economics, Economic and Social History, Political Science, Socio-legal Studies, Education, Psychology, Cognitive Studies, Linguistics, Human Geography, Environmental Planning, International Studies, Area and Development Studies, Social Statistics, Demography, Social Science Computing, Sociology, Social Anthropology, Social Policy, and Social work.
